Dr Meulman grew up in Sydney but always had a passion for the wide open spaces. Having completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 1988 he then commenced work at the Royal North Shore Hospital. Although most of his training was there, it was the rural rotations and the variety of practice it offered, that Dr Meulman enjoyed the most. After obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1994 and undertaking some training in Plastic surgery, a job in the Central west of NSW became available. Since then he has been offering a wide variety of surgical procedures to the region. Always with the endeavour to perform each subspecialty to a standard equivalent to his super specialised city-based colleagues.
The Central West also afforded him the lifestyle he desired. The absence of traffic jams and a wonderful environment to raise his three beautiful children.
Dr Meulman has always had a strong desire to help those less fortunate. In an endeavour to provide humanitarian assistance in our geographical region, he was a Surgeon in the Australian Defence Force for five years being deployed to East Timor and the Solomon Islands. After leaving the ADF he conducted a series of self-funded visits to Gizo in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. After this he was trained as a member of AUSMAT (The Australian Medical Assistance Team).
Combining his passion for flying with his humanitarian endeavours Dr Meulman established a surgical service to the remote community of Bourke in 2009.
